Testimonials

"I highly recommend the Beyond the Classroom: Facing Forward Australia professional learning for School Staff as an essential professional learning resource for all educators and school support staff.

This training program provides a comprehensive and practical approach to supporting students who have visible differences. Beginning with foundational concepts and progressing to more complex scenarios, the course equips school staff with the knowledge, confidence, and skills required to create inclusive learning environments where all students feel valued, respected, and safe.
One of the program's greatest strengths is its focus on developing understanding, empathy, and positive school cultures. Rather than simply addressing bullying when it occurs, the training encourages educators to foster curiosity, kindness, and acceptance among students, helping to prevent exclusion and stigma before it begins. The content supports teachers to respond appropriately to questions, manage challenging situations sensitively, and promote respectful conversations about physical differences.
The resource is well structured, with clearly explained modules that are accessible and engaging. The inclusion of assessments at the end of each module, along with reflective questions throughout the program, reinforces learning and encourages educators to consider how the concepts can be applied in their own school contexts.
Importantly, this is a contemporary, evidence-informed resource that reflects current understanding of inclusion, wellbeing, and student belonging. Brooke's lived experience as the parent of a child with a visible difference brings authenticity, practical insight, and a deep level of expertise that is evident throughout the training. This perspective enriches the content and ensures that the learning remains grounded in the real experiences of students and families.
Overall, Beyond the Classroom is an excellent resource that empowers educators to better support students with visible differences while helping entire school communities develop greater understanding, compassion, and inclusion. I would strongly recommend this program to schools seeking to strengthen their commitment to diversity, student wellbeing, and inclusive educational practice. I wish this program was available when I was still teaching, it would have made teaching and supporting students with visible differences and their classmates a lot easier.

"Having reviewed Brooke's professional development course, I have been sufficiently impressed by both its quality andpotential impact. The resource addresses a significant gap in teacher education by providing practical guidance around visible differences, inclusion, anti-bullying approaches, and appropriateresponses to student curiosity and peer interactions. Her platform empowers educators with the confidence to navigate conversations that many find challenging, while simultaneously promoting empathy, respect, and inclusive school cultures. Importantly, the program aligns strongly withcontemporary wellbeing frameworks and multi-tiered approaches to student support that are increasingly beingadopted throughout Australian schools. I can clearly see the benefits that would arise from the broader implementation and promotion of Brooke's work."

Beyond the Classroom’ is a training resource that would complement the professional learning of adults working in schools. In addition to educating adults on visible difference, the program advocates for the explicit teaching of children as to what constitutes visible difference and guides educators through what to do in the event that children notice this difference. Additionally, and most importantly, ‘Beyond the Classroom’ provides suggestions around how best to support the child with a visible difference. The training advocates for student voice and family consultation in navigating visible difference. Whilst the importance of consultation and collaboration is reflected in the AITSL (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership) standards, these are gaps in initial teacher training. The resource encourages open and honest dialogue about difference with both the student and their family – a conversation that some teachers may be reluctant to have for fear of offending the child or their family. I would recommend this resource to any adult working in a school. Inclusivity through the education and empowerment of children, is the important work of all schools.
